Reliability of Historical Car Data for Operating Speed Analysis along Road Networks

In recent years, innovative progress in information and communication technology (ICT) has introduced new sources for traffic data collection analysis. On-board sensors like GPS-GPRS boxes, generally installed insurance purposes, communicate from circulating vehicles to centers. Geographic location, date time, vehicles’ speed direction, are systematically transmitted stored as Historical Car Data (HCD) probe the stream. These databases provide a good opportunity analyze motion both temporal spatial domains. The aim of this study is pay attention reliability kind gathering. Since instrumented account small percentage entire vehicle fleet, it important understand if they can be considered sample representative whole population. paper presents comparison obtained HCD with ones recorded by inductive-loop detectors microwave radar sensors; performed analysis required definition specific methodologies procedures. results show high correspondence between two sets data.
